Radmila Vardalić and Belgrade strings BGO "Dušan Skovran"
The BELGRADE STRINGS is the most famous and widely traveled string orchestra in former Yugoslavia, highly acclaimed by both public and press in the course of their international tours. Throughout its travels, the artistic merit of the ensemble has been consistently evident. The quality of its interpretations, brilliant virtuosity, tremendous ability to communicate, and personal dedication of each musician of the group are the keys to its success. One of the most intriguing features of the Belgrade Strings is its ‘soloistic’ potential: every member of the ensemble, being a first-class chamber musician, is also fully capable of playing as a soloist. The orchestra has given over 400 concerts abroad, in Great Britain, France, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, USA, China, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, former Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Macedonia, where all their concerts resulted in rave reviews. The ensemble, known in Serbia and Montenegro as the “Dušan Skovran” String Orchestra, after the name of its founder, the late Prof. Dušan Skovran, was originally formed in 1965 from the best string players in the Faculty of Music in Belgrade’s University of Arts. The orchestra became a full-time professional chamber orchestra in 1980. Aleksandar Pavlović continued to work with the orchestra after the death of Prof. Skovran in1975 and Obrad Nedeljković has been the Music Director of the ensemble since 2003. In addition to an extensive repertoire ranging from pre-classical through to 21st-century music, the Belgrade Strings has premiered over 70 works written specially for them by Yugoslav composers. Festivals the ensemble has performed at include the City of London Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Cheltenham Festival, Santorini International Music Festival, Istanbul International Music Festival, Music Festival Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Bilbao Music Festival and Dubrovnik Summer festival, among others. Belgrade Strings has collaborated with many of the great artists of our time including Shlomo Mintz, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Nigel Kennedy, Irena Grafenauer, Sreten Krstić, Gerard Causse, Jean Pierre Rampal , Christopher Warren Green, Ronald Zollman, Kendal Taylor, Fabrice Pierre, Idil Biret, Nikolai Petrov, Jeremy Menuhin, Erasmo Gaudiomonte, Christian Gansh, Constantine Orbelian, Christian Larde, Ola Rudner, Letizia Belmondo, David Strange, Claudio Vandelli, Fransis Orval, Leonid Kuzmin, Costas Cotsiolis, Katarina Jovanović, Martin Hill, James Judd, Susan Drake, Vladimir Chernushenko, Louis Hopkins, Lutz Köhler, Alexis Galperine, Sophie Langdon, Stefan Milenković, Istvan Varga , Alexander Sikovetsky, Keneth Jean, Mateja Marinković, Aile Assonyi, Jean-Louis Hagenauer , Pierre Henry Xuereb, Cana Gürmen, Felix Renggli, Ryoko Yano, Walter Kobera, Franck Fontcouberte.
