Guarnerius Art Center was founded by Maestro Jovan Kolundzija. It is the most spectacular chamber music hall in Belgrade. It was opened in October of 2001, as a private non-profit institution. It is located in the vicinity of the old bohemian quarter Skadarlija in the building created by Russian architects Vasiljev and Kosinski in 1924. Maestro Kolundzija dedicated several years to restoring this space to its original splendor and beauty.
This center is named after Guarneri, the famous violinmaker from Cremona. One of his precious violins, made in 1754, is owned and performed on by the leading Serbian violinist Jovan Kolundzija. His exceptional qualities as a performer have brought him numerous tours numbering over four thousand concerts, as well as many international prizes and awards. Since the opening of the Art Center, we have presented over 600 artistic programs in the Guarnerius Concert Hall and in the Gallery. During this period, the Belgrade audiences had the opportunity to experience works of important artists from over twenty countries. We also give special attention to young musicians. Our institution gives them the opportunity to show their talent to the public, take part in master classes and get recommendations from Master Artists. As a special honor, the Guarnieri family granted us the permission to use their coat of arms, which has become our shield as well. The concert hall of exceptional beauty and acoustics, built in the late Renaissance style, can seat over one hundred. Apart from concerts, the hall is also used for theater plays, master classes, film projections, lectures, book readings, fashion shows, press conferences, receptions, presentations, cocktail parties, exhibitions, various celebrations, seminars, auctions and others. Because of the flexibility of its space, the concert hall can be accommodated for specific needs of the clients.
Some of the artists of world renown performed at the Guarnerius: Alban Gerhardt, Nicholas Clapton, Yoshimuru Nanae, Goetz Teutsch, Jovan Kolundzija, Trio Fibonacci, Egon Mihajlovic, Jadranka Jovanovic, St George Strings, Stefan Milenkovic, Darko Velickovski, Choir Melodi, Oleg Pokhanovski, Simon Nabatov, Nils Vogram, Brothers Teofilovic, Der Rote Bereich... ... and exhibitions of famous painters: Jovan Bjelic, Stojan Aralica, Ivan Radovic, Ljuba Popovic, Boza Ilic, Ksenija Divjak, Danica Antic, Radislav Trkulja, Olja Ivanjicki, Petar Dobrovic, Sava Stojkov...
We also organized programs of diverse profiles: Lennonday-an evening dedicated to John Lennon; Baroquefest - gourmet tasting of Baroque delicacies; an evening of Jazz; Milonga-an evening of tango, et al. The Gallery, an especially splendid space of smaller dimensions, is decorated with ornamental relief and ennobled with works of some of our most distinguished painters. In this space we organize exhibitions of paintings, graphic art, photography, crafts and antiques. General director: Jovan Kolundžija
