Belgrade’s longstanding international film festival started Friday night in Belgrade. FEST was officially opened by the Mayor of the Serbian capital Sinisa Mali. The gala opening hosted many well-known actors, directors and celebrities, including the chairpersons of two juries – Serbian film legend Neda Arneric and Croatian writer Miljenko Jergovic.

The ceremony included the awarding of the newly established award “Belgrade Victor” for contribution to film to the famous Serbian actress Milena Dravic and to renown Russian director Alexandre Sokurov.

The first film screened on the Festival was France’s “Saint-Laurent” by Bertrand Bonello, starring Gaspard Ulliel.

The new Artistic Director of the Festival Jugoslav Pantelic and the new Programming Director Mladen Djordjevic has introduced some major changes this year and the festival now has three competition programs – the Main Program with 15 films, Serbian film (12 films) and Frontiers (12 films).

The program of this year’s FEST will include a total of 90 international and Serbian films, to be screened for the first time, in Sava Center and other Belgrade movie theatres. The international jury will decide about the winners of the awards in several categories.
